Rolls-Royce Unveils New Updates for 2023 Phantom Facelift
Last month, eagle-eyed photographers spotted a camouflaged Rolls-Royce Phantom, hinting at an upcoming facelift for the luxury flagship model. More recently, another prototype of the luxurious flagship has surfaced, featuring even more subtle camouflage that almost renders the changes imperceptible.
The new prototype is adorned in a captivating orange paint, one of the numerous color options available to Rolls-Royce buyers, coupled with sleek black 6-spoke wheels.
Numerous chrome accents catch the eye, and the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy emblem sits proudly, slightly obscured. A closer inspection reveals redesigned headlight graphics and an additional trim on the front grille. The front and rear bumpers retain a similar look to the current Phantom, as do the unobstructed LED taillights.
Visible exhaust pipes indicate that this prototype is likely equipped with the current 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine, boasting 563 horsepower and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque. The V12 engine might undergo refinements to make it even more environmentally friendly before it gets phased out across the Rolls-Royce lineup by 2030.
By 2030, Rolls-Royce plans to introduce fully electric variants of the Ghost, Phantom, and Cullinan, along with the upcoming Spectre.
All of the aforementioned models are based on the same aluminum spaceframe architecture called the “Architecture of Luxury,” which has been engineered to accommodate electric propulsion like the Spectre. However, it remains uncertain whether Rolls-Royce will offer an electric version of the Phantom with this update or reserve it for the next generation.
The current Rolls-Royce Phantom was introduced in 2017, which means it will celebrate its 5th anniversary this year, providing an opportune time for the impending facelift. The updated Phantom might feature several variants to cater to the increasing demand in the luxury automotive market.
